Folsom South Canal Connection
Preliminary Design, Alignment 2
Geotechnical Exploration
Work Plan
The work plan presented below is for a geotechnical exploration program along portions
of the Alignment 2 alternative between the Folsom South Canal and the Mokelumne
Aqueduct (Figures 1, and 2, Location Map). The purpose of the work is to establish
geotechnical parameters for preliminary design of the Alignment 2 alternative. The work
includes data review, reconnaissance geologic mapping along the alignment, and
subsurface exploration which will be performed along the alignment at the locations
shown on Figures 1 and 2. The location and access to each of the borings are described
in Table 1, Boring Locations. We understand that sampling to determine the presence of
hazardous materials will be included as part of this program and is to be performed by
OCC under the immediate direction of CH2M Hill.
1. Data Review.
Olivia Chen Consultants (OCC)will obtain and review existing subsurface
geologic/geotechnical data proximate the Alignment 2 alternative between Folsom
South Canal and the Mokelumne Aqueduct. Such data may be available from
Sacramento County and San Joaquin County Departments of Health Services
(DHS) and Public Works (DPW).
2. Obtain Drilling Permit.
OCC will obtain drilling permits from the San Joaquin County Department of
Health Services prior to drilling. No drilling will be done until the permits are
received.
3. Locate Borings and Obtain Utilities Clearance.
Prior to physically locating the drill sites, OCC will visit each site with EBMUD
and the landowner or landowner's representative. OCC will mark boring locations
with labeled lath and flagging and/or white paint, as suitable, upon receipt of
clearance from the District's right-of-entry staff.
An underground utilities surveyor, e.g. USA, will be engaged to identify the
location of utilities at each of the proposed boring locations.
4. Drilling.
Drilling comprises the subsurface exploration for this study and will commence
within two weeks of notification of receipt of right-of-entry, contingent on weather,
suitability of access roads, and availability of drilling equipment. The work will
comprise of twenty-four* (24) rotary-wash borings. Seventeen(17) borings will be
GAPROJECCTMEBMUD\1113\1113.21\SJC_PRM2.DOC 1 Olivia Chen Consultants, Inc.
