Britz Fertilizer Stockton Site 1 rerraeon
Project No. 80077035
November 12, 2007
Subsurface Exploration
Terracon proposes to drill 12 borings (B-1 through B-12) at the site using direct-push drilling
techniques. Borings B-1 through B-8, B-11, and B-12 will be advanced to a depth of
approximately 8 feet. Borings B-9 and B-10 will be advanced to approximately 12 feet. If
groundwater is not encountered by 12 feet, one of the borings will be advanced to a maximum
depth of 25 feet to attempt to locate groundwater. If groundwater is encountered at a depth less
than 25 feet, three Hydropunch borings will also be advanced (at locations B-3, B-6, and B-11)
to collect groundwater samples. If groundwater is not encountered by 25 feet, the Hydropunch
borings will not be advanced. Three hand auger borings (HA-1 through HA-3) are also
proposed to a depth of approximately 4 feet. The approximate boring locations are shown on
the enclosed site plan. Site conditions, such as surface or underground obstructions or utilities,
may require adjustment of the boring locations in the field.
Soil lithology, color, relative moisture content and visual or olfactory evidence of contaminants
will be documented for each boring. Soil samples will be collected from each boring at
approximate depths of 1 foot, 4 feet, and/or 8 feet and 12 feet for laboratory analysis.
All sampling and drilling equipment will be thoroughly cleaned by use of a non-phosphate
cleaner (Alconox) followed by a potable water rinse and then deionized water rinse prior to
commencement of each boring. Upon completion of sampling, the borings will be backfilled with
neat cement grout to the surface.
Laboratory Analytical Program
The soil samples will be analyzed for the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) List 1
NEP Screen; organochlorine pesticides (EPA 8081); nitrate/nitrite nitrogen; ammonia nitrogen;
and/or TPHg and TPHd (EPA 8015) based on field observations. If encountered, the
groundwater samples will be analyzed for the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) List 1
NEP Screen; nitrate/nitrite nitrogen; and ammonia nitrogen.
Investigation-Derived Waste
All soil cuttings and decontamination rinsate will be placed in DOT-approved 55-gallon drums
and stored on-site pending disposal at an appropriately permitted facility.
Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this work plan.
Sincerely, QRpFFSSl0
lrerracon a°ase.
