Kennedy/Jenks Consultanft <br /> SOG 1: Standard Operating Guideline <br /> Boring and Subsurface Soil Sampling <br /> 1.1 Introduction <br /> This guideline describes the equipment and procedures that are used by Kennedy/Jenks <br /> Consultants personnel for drilling and collecting soil samples. <br /> 1.2 Equipment <br /> • Drill rigs and associated drilling and sampling equipment as specified in work plan: <br /> • Hollow stem auger <br /> • CME, 5 ft x 94 mm continuous-core barrels (hollow-stem auger) <br /> • 2.5-inch or 2.0-inch I.D. split-spoon drive sampler <br /> • 2.5-inch or 2.0-inch brass liners and sealing materials (plastic end caps, Teflon seals, silicon <br /> tape, zip-lock plastic bags) <br /> • Large capacity stainless steel borehole bailer <br /> • Sampler cleaning equipment <br /> • Steamcleaner <br /> • Generator <br /> • Stiff-bristle brushes <br /> • Buckets <br /> • High purity phosphate-free liquid soap, such as Liquinox <br /> • Potable water <br /> • Insulated sample storage and shipping containers <br /> • Personal protective equipment(refer to project site safety plan) <br /> 1.3 Typical Procedures <br /> 1. Obtain applicable drilling and well construction permits prior to mobilization. <br /> 2. Clear drilling locations for underground utilities and structures by Underground Service Alert <br /> (USA) and subcontractors. <br /> 3. Have all downhole equipment steamcleaned prior to drilling each boring. <br /> 4. Ensure that borings made to construct shallow monitoring wells are drilled with an auger drill rig <br /> that uses hollow stem augers of appropriate size to provide an annular space of a minimum of <br /> 2 inches between borehole wall and well casing. <br /> 5. Collect soil samples for lithologic logging purposes with a CME continuous coring system in <br /> 5-foot increments. <br /> 6.
