NOA Drywell Closure and Investigation Work Plan Page 9 of 16
March 18, 2014
Revised March 20, 2014
A 24-inch long core barrel fitted with four (4) six-inch long clean stainless steel sleeves will be
forced into the undisturbed soil one (1) to two (2) feet below the bottom of the drywells (50
feet bgs). The core barrel will be retrieved and sampling sleeves will be removed and placed on
clean plastic. The borehole will be logged using cuttings or the coring by a Geologist in
accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System. The sampling sleeve ends will then be
covered with Teflon sheets and plastic end caps and secured with silicone-based tape. Sample
end caps will be labeled appropriately. Sealed and labeled samples will then be placed in cooled
' ice chests for transportation to the analytical laboratory.
4.4 Equipment Decontamination
' All sampling equipment will be decontaminated before and after each sampling event. All
sampling equipment will be disassembled, washed in a solution of Liqui-Nox detergent or
equivalent and tap water, rinsed with tap water, rinsed with isopropyl alcohol, triple rinsed with
distilled water, rinsed with acid, and lastly rinsed with certified organic free water.
Cleaning will be conducted in such a manner so as to contain the water, which will be placed in
appropriate containment vessels, labeled, sealed, and stored prior to disposal. Disposal
methodologies will be contingent upon field observations and/or analytical results.
' 4.5 Sample Analysis
4.5.1 Groundwater
' Six (6) groundwater samples will be collected from each of the two (2) drywells. Each
groundwater sample will be analyzed for a separate constituent, including the following:
' Volatile Organics by EPA Method 8260.
Semi-Volatile Organics by EPA Method 8270
' . RCRA Metals by EPA Method 6010
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline by EPA Method 8015
Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Diesel by EPA Method 8015
Total Recoverable Petroleum Hydrocarbons by EPA Method 8440
One (1) groundwater sample will be collected and split between two identical containers to
fulfill the Replicate Samples Quality Control/Quality Assurance requirement (See Section 4.6).
Both containers will be analyzed for the following:
RCRA Metals by EPA Method 6010
In addition, the pH of the groundwater in each drywell will be measured in the field by a
Geologist or Engineer using a handheld pH meter.
All analyses will be provided by McCampbell Analytical in Pittsburg, California.
902 Industrial Way•Lodi,CA 95240-209.367.3701 •Fax 209.369.4228 02014 Neil O.Anderson&Associates,Inc
