REMEDIATION SYSTEM EVALUATION
' Soil vapor Extraction System Evaluation
From October 7 to December 27, 2005, the vapor extraction system was operational for approximately
' 865 6 hours The SVE system operated for approximately 17 5 days at 34 cfm from October 7 to October
28, approximately 18 days at 41 cfm from October 28 to November 21, and for approximately 1 day at 41
cfm from November 21 to December 27 The average extracted vapor flow rate was approximately 38 7 cfm
and the average influent vacuum achieved by the thermal oxidizer was approximately 21 inches of mercury,
based on the information contained on the field monitoring data sheets contained in Attachment 3
Based on the measured influent flow rate of 38 7 cfm, average influent concentration of each analyte in
ppmv, and using the values supplied by SunStar Labs of 24 5 liters of vapor per mole of analyte and the
molecular weight of each analyte in grams per mole, ATC calculated the total number of pounds of each
analyte removed by the SVE system during the fourth quarter 2005 Calculations associated with the
removal of the target analytes TPHg Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, and MTBE are provided
on Table 6
Total TPHg removed via vapor extraction since system startup on December 19,2002
8,723 29 lbs of TPHg as of end of third quarter 2005 + 13 02 pounds of TPHg fourth quarter 2005 =
' 8,736 31 pounds of TPHg removed since the startup of the system
Total benzene removed via vapor extraction since system startup on December 19,2002
2126 lbs benzene removed total as of end of third quarter 2005+0 13 Ib benzene fourth quarter 2005
q
=21 39 pounds of benzene removed since the startup of the system
1 Additionally, the SVE system removed approximately 0 16 pounds of toluene, 0 07 pounds of ethylbenzene,
0 42 pounds of total xylenes, and 0 02 pounds of MTBE during the fourth quarter 2005 These values were
' calculated for the current reporting period, however, a cumulative total since remediation began at the site
has not historically been calculated
Destruction Efficiency
The destruction efficiencies for TPHg, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes using laboratory data
' from October 28, 2005, were calculated to be approximately 94 44 percent, 30 56 percent, 48 45 percent,
19 35 percent,and 76 74 percent,respectively
' The destruction efficiencies for TPHg, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes using laboratory data
from November 21, 2005, were calculated to be approximately 88 00 percent, 91 67 percent, 77 97 percent,
73 68 percent, and 39 09 percent,respectively
' The destruction efficiencies for October 28 and November 21, 2005, were also calculated using PID
readings which resulted in values of 85 76 percent and 94 78 percent, respectively Destruction efficiency
calculations are provided in Table 7
1
Since the destruction efficiency calculations for most of the analytes using laboratory data were below 99%,
ATC also calculated the total mass of TPHg and BTEX during the reporting period to show compliance
with the site San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District(APCD)permit The total mass released was
S lenviro1625961quartiyl4gr-2005 doc 7 ATC ASSOCIATES INC
