z
419 Main St.,Manteca
Boyett Petroleum
Page 2
Furthermore, since Method 8020 is not capable of detecting oxygenates other than MTBE,
Method 8260 is the only choice available for oxygenate analyses. Given the history of the
site where concentrations as high as 11,600 micrograms per liter(ug/o of MTBE, 1,130 ug/l
of TBA,and 58 ug/of TANTE have been detected in the monitoring well samples, the use
of Method 8260 for oxygenate analyses must be included in all future quarterly and
investigative sampling. PHS/EM also requires the analyses of 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-
DCA) and 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB). It should be noted that the aromatic hydrocarbons as
benzene,toluene,ethyl-benzene,and total xylenes
detected der Methofive oxygenates
8260B Therefore
l as
ethanol,methanol, 1,2-DCA, and EDB can
the additional cost of running these extra chemicals should be minimal if any. It should also
be noted that some laboratories have the capabilityto detect hydrocarbons petroleum as
gasoline (I'PH g) using Method 8260B.
In a telephone conversation on November 21,2000,Mr.Fox expressed that you had given
him consent to perform the proposed work as soon as possible without going through the
bidding process or obtaining prior approval of cost from the State Clean Up Fund (Fund).
PHS/EHD recommends seeking cost pre-approval from Fund before the commencement
of work; however,it is your decision and responsibility to obtain the cost pre-approval. The
proposed monitoring well work must commence by December 25,2000 and the CPT
work by December 31,2000.
If you have any questions, please contact Jeffrey Wong at (209) 468-0335.
Donna Reran,RENS,Director
Environmental Health Division
effre Wong, RENS / Dot Lofs om
J y Registered Geologist,Unit IV
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV g g
C: RWQCB, Central Valley Region- Marty Hartzell
C(fax): VA-IF,Inc.- Bill Fox
I
1
