SC&D Boyett Petroleum
' 419 South Main Street March 18, 1999
Manteca, California Page: 2
The soil samples submitted for analysis from both the stockpiled soils and the dispenser
locations were analyzed for gasoline by EPA method M 8015, BTX&E along with MTBE
' were analyzed by EPA method 8020. The results of that analysis are found in Tables 1 &
2 of this plan.
' On October 5, 1998, WBF, Inc. (WBF) in conjunction with Fisch Environmental
Exploration Services, a state licensed drilling contractor, completed two (2) vertical soil
borings, SB-1 and SB-2, to a maximum depth of eighteen(18) feet near the fuel dispenser
' island. The data collected was utilized to evaluate the presence or absence of
contamination in the shallow subsurface and groundwater underlying the fuel dispensers.
Soil samples were taken from all borings at five (5) foot intervals for soil classification.
Three (3) soil samples were selected from each boring at 4-6 feet, 9-11 feet, and 16 feet
for laboratory analysis. One (1) groundwater sample was collected from the termination
point at eighteen(18) feet for laboratory analysis.
I3.0 Scope of Work
j. WFIF proposes three (3) shallow soil borings, to be converted to monitoring wells, to a
depth of approximately 30' bgl. (groundwater depth —18') to confirm the presence or
absence of petroleum hydrocarbons and the vertical extent of the soil contamination in the
unauthorized release area. The actual depth of the wells may vary and will be based on
the judgment of the on-site professional. The event will provide the data to evaluate the
soil contamination at the dispenser island, if any, and the extent of groundwater
contamination underlying the site (Figure 2). Soil boring/monitoring well locations
proposed in this scope of work are identified in Figure 3 of this work plan.
3.1 Drilling
Permits will be obtained as necessary for all wells (including borings) before
drilling begins. The soil boring will be accomplished using a mobile mounted
drilling rig employing the use of a hollow stem flight auger whose outer
diameter is no less than 8 inches.
All drilling equipment will be thoroughly steam-cleaned before drilling begins,
to prevent the introduction of contamination from off site, and between borings
to prevent cross contamination.
The borings will be logged under the direct supervision of a registered
professional using the Unified Soil Classification System (Appendices A & D).
