Patricia Bonnifield Page 4 October 20, 2003
Therefore, any soil eroding from the site would likely accumulate at the bottom of the depression
caused by the sandblast compound rather than reaching the surface water. Thus, potential
impacts on surface water and sediment are considered incomplete.
Conclusions and Recommendations
Based on the above-described results it is our professional opinion that no hazardous waste is
present within the sandblast compound or in the vicinity of the sandblast compound. It is also
our professional opinion that the existing site conditions do not pose a health threat or an
environmental threat to surface water, groundwater, or any aquatic habitat in the vicinity of the
sandblast area. We are have been informed that the future site development plans call for the
cessation of future sandblasting, and this entire area will be paved with a concrete surface. The
paving of the entire area will prevent any future exposure to the existing surface soil conditions.
It our professional opinion that no additional clean-up actions are warranted at this time, and that
there is no further need for any regulatory oversight for this issue. Copies of this report should
be sent to the SJCEHD and DTSC to seek release from all further regulatory oversight and case
closure.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to call.
Sincerely,
SHAW ENVIRONMENTAL, INC.
J.
