Building 201 Excavation Work Plan -3- 31 January 1992
DDRW, Tracy
Page 2-4. The Work Plan states that the soils borings will be abandoned using a
cement slurry pumped through a tremmie pipe with additional cement placed
in the hole if settlement occurs. The Work Plan should clarify that the
entire length of the borehole will be filled with cement.
Page 2-7. Fifteen feet of screen are proposed for the monitor well , with one to four
of screen placed above the water table to account for seasonal variations
in the ground water table. We recommend that five feet of screen be
placed above the water table in the event that floating product is
encountered.
Page 2-9. The Work Plan proposes performing Atterburg limits and moisture content
for the purposes of verifying the field classification of the soils.
These tests are not needed for classification verification and should be
deleted. Collection of a soil sample for analysis of grain distribution
may be justifiable, but the Work Plan should have specified the depth at
which the one sample would be collected. If a sample is collected for
analysis of grain distribution, the sample should be collected at the
screen interval .
Page 2-20. The analytical methods for soils and ground water are listed in a table.
The list includes analysis for total lead. If the existing lead
concentrations are for soils from the tank excavation near Building 201,
then the analysis for soils samples should be modified to be for organic
lead. In addition, analysis for EDB for both soil and ground water
samples should be included.
CKW:cw
