When overhead power lines are close by, the drill rig mast should not be raised <br /> unless the distance between the rig and the nearest power line is in accordance with Corp <br /> requirements or the power has been shut off and positive means have been taken to prevent <br /> the lines from being energized. The drill rig operator or assistant should walk completely <br /> around the rig to make sure that proper distance exists. <br /> Power lines Minimum <br /> nominal system kv required distance <br /> 0-50 10 feet <br /> 51-100 12 feet <br /> 101-200 15 feet <br /> 201-300 20 feet <br /> 301-500 25 feet <br /> 501-750 35 feet <br /> 751-1000 45 feet <br /> When the drill rig is positioned near an overhead line, the rig operator should be <br /> aware that hoist lines and power lines can be moved towards each other by wind. <br /> 509.6 Clearing the Work Area <br /> Before a drill rig is positioned to drill, the area on which the rig is to be positioned <br /> should be cleared of removable obstacles and leveled if sloped. The cleared/leveled area <br /> should be large enough to accommodate the rig and supplies. Clearance shall be in <br /> accordance with Chapter 18 of EM 385-1-1. <br /> 509.7 Safe Use of Augers <br /> Never place hands or fingers under the bottom of an auger flight when hoisting the <br /> flight over the top of another flight in the ground or other hard surfaces, such as the drill rig <br /> platform. <br /> Never allow feet to get under the auger flight while the flight is being hoisted. <br /> r.. <br /> When an auger is rotating, stay clear of the auger and other rotating components of <br /> the drill rig. Never reach behind or around a rotating auger for any reason. <br />
