' 05 February 2001
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0468' ;
' Page 3 of 7
2.4. LABORATORY ANALYSES OF SOIL SAMPLES
Selected,soil samples were analyzed for the following constituents: ,
' Total petroleum'hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
Method 8015 Modified;
' Volatile aromatic compounds-benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene and total xylenes(BTEX) and
screened for methyl-tertiary butyl ether(MTBE)in accordance with EPA Method 8020 and
Oxygenated fuel additives - di-isopropyl.ether (DIPE); ethyl tertiary hutyl ether (ETBE), .
MTBE, tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA) and tertiary amyl methyl-ethe'r (TAME), methanol,
ethanol, ethyl-dibromide (EDB) and 1,2-dichloroethane(1,27DCA)"in accordance with EPA
' Method 8260 Modified.
' 2.5. MONITORING WELL PURGE PROCEDURES
On 30 November 2000, a ground water monitoring event'was conducted at the site. The ground
1 water monitoring activiiies.,included the measurement of ground water levels and collection.of
ground water samples from site monitoring wells MW-1 through MW-8. A solinst water level meter
' was used to measure the depth to ground water in each well relative to the tops of the well casings.
After ground water depth measurements were collected, monitoring wells MW-3-through MW-5 n
' were purged using a per-cleaned, two-stage submersible pump. Wells MW-6 through MW-8 were
bailed with asteel-bailer and pre-purged an excessive amount in an attempt to purge fine sediments
and silts from the wells. Up to 20 gallons of water were evacuated from monitoring wells MW-7 ,
' and MW-8, and 40 gallons of water were evacuated from monitoring well MW-6. Approximately-
3 to 10 gallons of water were evacuated from each of the other monitoring wells (a minimum three
casing.water volumes), as appropriate for each well. Temperature,_pH and.conductivity were ,
' measured at regular gallon intervals, using a Hydac water analyzer to monitor stabilization-of these r
ground water parameters.,.Field data logs are included.in Appendix B. Purged water was temporarily
stored.on-site in 55-gallon drums.
2.6. COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES ,
Water samples- were collected from selected,monitoring wells (MW-3 to MW-8) using new
disposable bailers after allowing the wells to achieve a minimum 80% recovery of the pre-purge
'. water volume. The samples were transferred into 40-m1 EPA-approved'vials containing 0.5 ml 18%
. hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative and into 1-liter amber 'bottles without a'sample
tAdvanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
