05 February 2001
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0468 ;
' Page 2 of 7 i
using a 140-pound hammer to advance the sampler. The number-of blows required to advance the
' sampler over each 6=inch increment of the 18-inch sampling interval was recorded on the boring
logs. Sampling equipment was washed in an Alconox solution and rinsed"with water prior to each
tsampling run to minimize cross-contamination: ;
For each sample,both ends.of the leading,or other selected sleeve were covered with Teflon sheets,
j capped and sealed with tape. The sampleswere labeled, stored on ice and transported under chain-of-
custody to McCambell Analytical,Inc. (MAI), a State of California Department of Health Services
(DHS)-certified analytical.laboratory. ;
2.2. LOGGING
' Soil was extruded from a second•brass sleeve or from the p
un reserved portions of.the soil in the core
P
barrel samples.and were screened for the presence of organic vapor using an organic vapor meter
(OVM) equipped with,,a photo-ionization detector-(PID: Thermo Environmental 580A, 10.0 eV,
calibrated to isobutylene),and the OVM readings were recorded on,the boring log. The soil was then
visually described in accordance with the Unified Soil.Classification System (see Appendix A).
2.3. WELL AND'BORING COMPLETION.
Boring MW6 was completed as a depth discrete ground water monitoring-well MW-6,'using two-
inch diameter PVC casing with 0.020-inch slotted screen installed from approximately 35 feet to 40
' feet bsg and with blank.casing.extended t_. urfacehe_filter pack..- o:2112 Lonestar sand)'was.
installed in the soil boring fro dT0 feet to approximately 32 feet bsg. A nominal 2-foot bentonite
chip plug was then installed above the filter acrla--nUWy—&Rred.
Borings MW7 and MW8 were completed as ground water monitoring wells-MW-7 and MW-8 using .
' .two-inch'diameter.PVC casing with 0.020-inch slotted-screen installed from approximately 5 feet
to 20 feet bsg and with blank casing'extended to-the surface. The filter pack(No: 2/12 Lonestar sand)
was installed in each soil boring from 4 feet to approximately.-20 feet bsg. A,nominal 2-foot
' bentonite chip plug was'then installed above the f lter pack and hydrated.
The wells were then grouted to near the surface with Portland cement. Water-tight, traffic-rated.well,
' boxes were then installed over the e wells. As-built well diagrarns are depicted on the boring logs in,
Appendix A.
''.
