Page 2
layout of the contaminated material stockpiles and the
plants relative to the property lines.
SITE HISTORY: In June of 1987, a 5, 000 gallon gasoline tank
and a 10, 000 gallon diesel tank were removed. In June of
1988, a 500 gallon waste oil tank was removed.
In April and July 1991, excavation was performed to
remove all
potentially contaminated material and the spoil was
stockpiled adjacent to the excavation. The excavation was
subsequently backfilled. The stockpile from the removal of
the waste oil tank contains approximately
800 CY and the stockpile from the removal of the gasoline
and diesel tanks contains approximately 1, 200 CY.
PROPOSED DISPOSAL: The Claude C. Wood Co. proposes that the
contaminated material be processed by screening and crushing
into mineral aggregates which would then further be
processed into asphaltic concrete. Details of the plan are
as follows:
1. The material will be transferred to the on site
mineral aggregate plant approximately 1000 ft. by trucks or
a front end loader. The two stockpiles will be combined to
form one pile near the dozer trap feeder at the mineral
aggregate plant. No other material will be
combined with the contaminated material to be processed.
The stockpile area at the dozer feed trap is hard and level
gravel which will insure that all material will be picked up
and processed thru the plant.
2 . The material, which consists of sand and rock, will
be processed thru the mineral aggregate plant. (See Plate
IV) This is a dry process with water only being used as a
spray to control dust. The sand is separated from the rock
at the 6x16 screen. The sand then travels via a conveyor
out to a stockpile. The rock is sent thru the crusher and
over the 5x16 screen. The rock is crushed and sized into 3
classifications, material finer than 1/411 , 1/4" to 1/211 , and
1/2" to 3/411 . The 5x16 screen discharges material onto
conveyors which transport material to the proper stockpile.
The mineral aggregate plant is a closed loop system, ie. all
material going into the plant is discharged into a product
stockpile. There is no waste.
