evidence of contamination was removed. Approximately ? feet was
removed from the east wall of the excavation, but no evidence of
contamination was observed, and operations ceased. The final
shape of the pit was approximately 35' long, (N-S, ) and 20' wide,
(E-W, ) and 0 ' deep. A total of about 520 CY of spoil was
removed. The operation was supervised by Mr. Hunter , and
witnessed by Mr. Knoll of the County EHD.
Soil . samples were collected from the backhoe bucket by Mr.
Hunter , using properly prepared brass tubes supplied by the
testing lab; they were promptly sealed, labeled and stored can
ice. The locations of the samples was approved by Mr. Knoll , and
are shown on Plate XV. The samples were transported under proper
chain of custody to FGL laboratory for analysis; (refer to
Exhibit K. )
The results of the laboratory analysis, (Table VI , ) showed a very
small of toluene present in the samples from the west wall and
the bottom-south. All tither tested substances were below
detection limits. The minor amount of Toluene remaining is far
below the maximums allowed to be left i n place as determined from
the LOFT Manual Leaching Potential Analysis worksheet. Plates XI
• & XII show the final locations & configurations of the two exca-
vations after completion of the work covered by this report.
QQNE LUgjQt! The very minor amounts of substances remaining the
the two pits are well within the allowable levels as set forth in
the LOFT Manual , and do not present any current or future threat
to the groundwater at this location.
RECOMMENDAT T ONS
( 1 ) Both excavations should be filled with either properly
manifested clean soil , or clean material presently on site which
does not meet criteria for aggregates_
(2) After proper profiling of the the spoil removed from the two
excavations, a detailed plan for handling the material should be
prepared and submitted to the County for approval . Upon
completion of the that phase of the operation, a formal request
for site closure uld be made.
RED Ge
William a. er
yl'ILVtix lilllEA
August 23, 991
Sl9 Q
7
