LAYOUT/TANK RESULTS
The layout of removed gasoline tank can be seen in figure 2 .
The size of the gasoline tank was 500 gallons and approximate
dimensions were four feet by six feet. The results of soil test
immediately below former tank showed 60,000 ug/kg Toluene, 750,000
ug/kg Xylene and Gasoline at 439 mg/kg, see enclosure 1 .
A test boring conducted on September 10, 1989 showed no signs of
contamination, approximate location of boring shown on figure 2. The
boring was down to thirty-five feet and within seven to ten feet of
former gasoline tank.
SUMMARY OF WORK AT SITE
Additional work is necessary to define levels of gasoline contamination
present and the horizontal and the vertical migration of contaminates.
This investigation is an attempt at determining the horizontal and
vertical migration of contaminates. The non-detection boundary level
will be the determining level for locating all contaminates at the
site.
HISTORY
The project site is located in a industrial area of Lodi , California.
The former 500 gallon gasoline tank was used to provide fuel for
vehicles used at the site. The gasoline tank was removed on February
27, 1987.
SITE GEOLOGY
The site is typically covered with asphalt or concrete. The area soils
are brown silty sand or sand silt clays. Water elevation is fifty to
fifty-five feet below existing grade.
SaROUND WATER CHARAICTERISTICS
The water table is expected to be at fifty to fifty-five feet based on
information obtained from 1986 Map of San Joaquin Valley distributed
by the Department of Water Resources. Water gradient is expected to be
in a northwesterly direction from site.
1II
PROPOSED SOIL SAMPLING
Prior to the soil sampling we will conduct a magnetometer survey to
locate any buried objects. All geophysical equipment will be used,
operated, and calibrated in accordance with the manufactures's
recommended procedures.
We are proposing to remove a_ 15 foot by 15 foot by sixteen foot deep
soil area from around former gasoline tank site by the use of a
backhoe. The soil will be temporarily relocated as shown on figure 2.
We will not exceed the size or depth proposed without the a new
proposal being submitted.
r
The soil will be tested in the field by the use of Tracer Dye and/or
Photoionization equipment to determine the most representative sampling
locations for laboratory analysis. We are expecting to take six to
eight soil samples from the 134 cubic yards of soil .
A field notebook will be used to log samples taken and soils
encountered. The notebook will record the measurements taken during
sampling, person sampling, sample designation, date, time, location,
field parameter sample containers used, decontamination procedures'
