HISTORY On February 27, 1987 a 500 gallon paint thinner tank was removed from 213 S. Kelly Street. The layout of removed paint thinner tank can be seen in figure 2 . The size of the paint thinner tank was 500 gallons and approximate dimensions were four feet by six feet. The results of soil test immediately below former tank showed 60,000 ug/kg Toluene, 750,000 ug/kg Xylene and Gasoline at 439 mg/kg, see Appendix A. A test boring conducted on September 10, 1989 showed no signs of contamination, approximate location of boring shown on figure 2 . The boring was down to thirty-five feet and within seven to ten feet of r► former paint thinner tank. SUMMARY OF WORK DONE AT SITE UNDER PRELIMINARY SITE INVESTIGATION WORK PLAN On August 1, 1990 a Preliminary Site Investigation Work Plan was submitted to San Joaquin County Local Health District Environmental Health Division. The work plan was approved on August 6, 1990 by San Joaquin County to proceed with the investigation. On August 8, 1990 Reed & Associates started excavation at 213 S. Kelly Street in Lodi to find the horizontal and vertical extent of contamination at the site. Harlin Knoll San Joaquin County Environmental Health Specialist was at I. the site to observe the investigation. During the investigation screening of the soils were accomplished by GasTech Model 1314S. A hole was excavated that was approximately fifteen feet by sixteen feet and sixteen feet deep. Approximately 124 cubic yards of contaminated soils were removed. All contaminated soil removed from the excavation was placed on top of 6 mil plastic sheeting., After all contaminated soil was removed from the excavation a 6 mil plastic sheet was placed on top of the contaminated soil to prevent aeration of the contaminated soils until proper county authorization could be obtained. r One soil sample was taken from each sides and from the bottom of the excavation for laboratory analysis. Two representative soil samples were taken from the 124 cubic yards of contaminated soils stockpiled at the site. Laboratory analysis consisted of an EPA Method 8020 and Method GC-FID. All soil samples were tracked by a formal chain-of-custody to maintain the integrity of samples taken. All soil samples taken were sampled using brass tubes to minimize disturbance of soil sampled. Once a sample was taken the brass tube was sealed with teflon caps and duct tape on both ends . The samples were labelled and placed in a cold r storage box for transportation to the laboratory. Each sample taken was issued its own sample identification number for identification proposes, see Apppendix A. Application was made to San Joaquin County Air Pollution Control District for soil aeration at 213 S. Kelly Street in Lodi . The application was reviewed and was exempt from the San Joaquin County Air Pollution Control District's Rules and Regulations. Aeration of the soils at 213 S. Kelly Street in Lodi was started on September 51 1990 after receiving the letter from the Air Pollution District and discussions with Harlin Knoll.
