Applied GeoSystems' methods for field work are described in Appendix A.
(" I
Soil Bonnffs.and Soil Sainaling
Applied GeoSystems was at the site on October 3 and 4, 1990, to observe Wayne Drilling
Company of Uncoin, California; drill six 8-inch-diameter soil borings, five of which were
successfully drilled (B-1 through B-5), while the sixth could not be drilled because of the
proximity of the station building and the canopy overhang. The locations of the soil borings
u
are shown on Plate P2. ?
® The locations of the borings were selected using ARCO's Preliminary Tank Replacement
Assessment guidelines Borings B-1, B-2, and B-3 were drilled approximately 2-1/2 feet
! from the edge of the tank area near the fill ends of the underground storage tanks, and
borings B-4 and B-5 were drilled in the area proposed as the new.tank cavity (Plate P-2). ,
t
Soil samples were collected during drilling at approximately 5-foot intervals and were _
classified according to the Unified Soil Classification System(Plate P-4). Descriptions of 3
R materials encountered are presented in the Logs of Borings (Plates P-5 through P-14). The
materials consisted predominately of sand and silt. The sand was logged as fine to coarse
grained. The Logs of Borings also indicate a trace amount of shale. '
i
.+4p,1P#ed G008) tvIns
{
