22 May 2000
AGE-NC Project No. 00-0704
4.2. FIELD EVIDENCE OF HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL
Organic vapor was detected in soil sample duplicates collected from B5-5', B5-10' and B8-10' at
concentrations of 0.2 parts per million(ppm), 72 ppm, and 8 ppm, respectively.
4.3. GROUND WATER DEPTH AND GRADIENT
Based on field data collected on-site ground water depth is approximately 45 feet bsg.
4.4. RESULTS OF SOIL SAMPLE ANALYSIS
Select soil samples from probe borings and hand-auger borings were submitted for analysis for
TPH-g, TPH-d, TPH-mo, BTEX, fuel oxygenates, and VOCs. The locations of investigation
included four former Graylift, Inc. areas consisting of; a storm drain basin, a former paint spray
booth, a former steam-cleaning area, and a former UST and dispenser island area. A fifth area
formerly utilized for a Shell gasoline and service station, located at the southeast corner of the
property, was also sampled.
Storm Drainage Basin
Three hand-auger soil samples were collected from the east, middle and west end of the drainage
pond area and were identified as HA1-3', HA2-3', and HA3-3', respectively. The samples were
composite analyzed 3:1 and petroleum hydrocarbons TPH-d and TPH-mo were detected at a
concentration of 82 ppm, 520 ppm, respectively. Hand-auger sample HA4-2'and soil probe boring
B12-6" collected from the south wall of the drainage pond and the area due east of the pond,
formerly a above ground used oil storage tank area, were composite analyzed 2:1. Cadmium,
chromium, nickel, lead, and zinc were detected at concentrations as high as 1.4 ppm, 46 ppm, 30
ppm, 200 ppm, and 510 ppm, respectively.
Former Spray Paint Booth
Soil sample B10-5' was collected from the area formerly utilized as a spray paint booth and
tetrachloroethene (TCE) was detected at a concentration of 0.0063 ppm.
Former Steam-Cleaning Area
Soil boring B9 was advanced near the former steam cleaning area. Soil samples B9-10' and B9-15'
were composite analyzed 2:1, TPH-g was detected at a concentration of 1.7 ppm. Additionally,
samples B9-5' and B9-10'were composite analyzed 2:1 and chromium, nickel, lead, and zinc were
detected at concentrations as high as 26 ppm, 31 ppm, 6.5 ppm, and 53 ppm, respectively.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
