BUILDING 16 FORMER USTS GROUND WATER INVESTIGATION WORK PLAN
PORT WEST COMPLEX, ROUGH AND READY ISLAND, PORT OF STOCKTON
The grab ground water samples will be analyzed for TPHg by EPA Method 8015, benzene,
toluene, ethyl benzene, and total xylenes (BTEX) by EPA Method 8020, and for methyl tertiary
butyl ether (MTBE) confirmed by EPA Method 8260. Due to the number of samples, an on-site
mobile laboratory may be used to allow decisions to be made in the field regarding the need
for collecting ground water samples in addition to the proposed locations.
3.2.4 Boring Completion
Upon completion of all sampling and data collection activities, the borings will be tremie
grouted to ground surface using a mixture of neat cement and bentonite clay. The top of the
boring will be finished similar to surrounding materials. Each boring will be laterally located
by a licensed surveyor relative to on- and off-Site features.
3.2.5 Waste Management
Soil material generated from the borings and ground water and wastewater generated from
investigation and decontamination activities will be placed in 55-gallon DOT drums, labeled
appropriately, and stored on-site for future disposal. Results of soil and ground water sample
analyses may be evaluated and appropriate disposal facilities contacted to arrange for
transport and disposal of the waste materials.
3.3 TASK 3: GROUND WATER MONITORING
Ground water samples will be collected from the monitor wells (MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, MW-4).
Prior to collecting ground water samples, the depth to water, thickness of separate phase
product (if any), and the depth to the bottom of the well casing, will be measured. Water
quality parameters, including pH, dissolved oxygen, and electrical conductivity will be
measured in the field.
Ground water samples will be collected from the monitor wells using low-flow sampling
methods, or a bailer following purging of at least three well volumes. The ground water
samples will be placed in a chilled ice chest immediately after collection for transport to the
laboratory under chain-of-custody protocols.
The ground water samples will be analyzed for TPHg by EPA Method 8015; for benzene,
toluene, ethyl benzene and total xylenes by EPA Method 8020; for MTBE by EPA Method
8260B, and for the natural attenuation parameters nitrate (NO3), ferrous iron (Fe+2), sulfate
(SO4), methane(CH4), and carbon dioxide(CO2).
Environmental Risk Services.Corp.
