Level C requires either a half mask <br /> or full-face air-purifying respirator(APR) with a high-efficiency particulate filter(HEPA). <br /> Based upon the compound of concern at this site, petroleum hydrocarbons, Level D protection is <br /> considered appropriate and will be utilized. Level D includes: long pants, sleeved shirt, steel- <br /> toed boots, safety glasses, hard hat, and hearing protection. During ballast washing activities, a <br /> modified Level D will be utilized and it includes the following in addition to Level D protection: <br /> splash guard, nitrile gloves, water resistant coveralls (Tyvek), disposable boot covers, and <br /> hearing protection. During groundwater sampling activities, a modified Level D will be utilized <br /> including the following: nitrile gloves, water resistant coveralls (Tyvek), and disposable boot <br /> covers. During soil sampling activities, nitrile gloves will be worn and during hand auguring <br /> activities, work gloves will be worn. <br /> Level C protection with '/z-mask APR equipped with organic vapor/HEPA cartridges will be <br /> required if VOCs exceed 50 ppm or dust levels are greater than 5 mg/m3. If utilized, cartridges <br /> will be changed daily.
