Level C requires either a half mask
or full-face air-purifying respirator(APR) with a high-efficiency particulate filter(HEPA).
Based upon the compound of concern at this site, petroleum hydrocarbons, Level D protection is
considered appropriate and will be utilized. Level D includes: long pants, sleeved shirt, steel-
toed boots, safety glasses, hard hat, and hearing protection. During ballast washing activities, a
modified Level D will be utilized and it includes the following in addition to Level D protection:
splash guard, nitrile gloves, water resistant coveralls (Tyvek), disposable boot covers, and
hearing protection. During groundwater sampling activities, a modified Level D will be utilized
including the following: nitrile gloves, water resistant coveralls (Tyvek), and disposable boot
covers. During soil sampling activities, nitrile gloves will be worn and during hand auguring
activities, work gloves will be worn.
Level C protection with '/z-mask APR equipped with organic vapor/HEPA cartridges will be
required if VOCs exceed 50 ppm or dust levels are greater than 5 mg/m3. If utilized, cartridges
will be changed daily. This approved HSP will serve as certification that a hazard assessment
has been conducted and that the level of protection assigned has been deemed adequate if
properly worn.
Rough&Ready Island 10 Tetra Tech, Inc.
Final Work Plan Addendum December 11, 1998.
