L,
J
1
Aquifer Pump Test Report of Findings
Frontier Transportation, Inc.
November 8, 2006
Page 4
1
The past groundwater gradients included in quarterly groundwater monitoring reports have
identified the flow of groundwater in a generally western direction beneath the site. See Figure 3 for
the most recent groundwater gradient.
4.0) SITE ASSESSMENT RESULTS
On September 26, 2006 and September 27, 2006, BEA supervised the installation of
groundwater monitoring wells MW-22 and MW-23 . These wells were installed for the purpose of
performing an aquifer pump test at MW-3R with the two new wells as observation wells during
pumping. (See Figure 2 for well locations). Shallow monitoring wells MW-22 and MW-23 were
advanced to 20 ' bgs. The aquifer pump test at MW-3R was performed on October 13 , 2006.
4.1) Well Installation
An 8-inch outside and 4.25-inch inside diameter hollow stem auger was used to install the
monitoring wells. The new groundwater monitoring wells were constructed of schedule 40 PVC
casing. The screen slots were sized at 0.01 -inch with a size #2/16 sand annular pack. The new
shallow wells were screened from 5 ' to 20 ' bgs and the sand annular pack extended from 4. 0' bgs to
20 ' bgs . The annular seal was one foot thick and consisted of bentonite pellets. The remaining
annular space was grouted to surface with a Portland cement and potable water mixture. Ends of the
screen and riser sections were constructed with flush-joining threaded fittings to ensure leak-proof
unions. (See Appendix A for well construction).
4.2) Soil Sample Results
Soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals from a split spoon sampler that contained three
brass liners, which were 2 inches in diameter and 6 inches long. Soil samples were screened for
petroleum hydrocarbons in the field using a Min1R AF 2000 PID (Model PGM7600) photoionization
detector (PID). A total of eight (8) soil samples were collected from MW-22 and MW-23 . Four
samples were taken for each well at depths of 5 ' , 10 ' , 15 ' and 20 ' bgs. All samples were analyzed for
TPH-g (C4-C12), BTEX, and MTBE, TBA, DIPE, ETBE, TAME, 1 ,2-DCA and EDB using EPA
;I
methods 8015M and 8260B as requested by the PHS/EHD . The four samples from MW-23 were
