i
I
Aquifer Pump Test Report of Findings
Frontier Transportation, Inc.
November 8, 2006
Page 7
approximately four feet in MW-3R, with a maximum drawdown of 3 .99 ' . Drawdown in MW-22
reached 1 . 15 ' , which is about 28% of the maximum drawdown for MW-3R. MW-23 displayed a
maximum drawdown of 0.69 ' ( 17% of the drawdown observed in MW-3R) and MW-21 had a
maximum drawdown of 0. 12 ' (3 % of the drawdown observed in MW-3R) . After two (2) hours of
recovery all three well recharged to almost their initial groundwater depths. Both MW-3R and MW-
23 recharged to only 0.07 ' below initial groundwater depth and MW-22 recharged to 0.09 ' below
initial groundwater depth.
6.0) CONCLUSIONS
The aquifer pump test at MW-3R demonstrated that pump and treat method can be
implemented in the source area to reduce the elevated contamination. Groundwater pumping can be
supported at a rate ofup to 2.5 gallons per minute, but would likely be adjusted in the field to a lower
pump rate based on water treatment capabilities. Treatment method for the purged water will include
either an air stripping tower or possible a liquid-phase carbon vessels. The radius of influence for
pumping in the source area is wide enough to capture a large portion of the contaminant in the source
area. Furthermore, permeability and hydraulic conductivity soil characterization results from MW-23
support that pump and treat is a viable remediation option. Soil sample results from MW-22 and
MW-23 indicate that contamination is elevated and that remediation in the source area is necessary.
7.0) RECOMMENDATIONS
It is recommended that pump and treat be initiated in the source area at MW-3R. With
continued monitoring of the remediation, additional pumping maybe considered at MW-21 , which is
near the source area and has demonstrated elevated groundwater contamination. Depending on
contaminant reduction, additional remediation measures may be evaluated in the future including in
situ oxidation with peroxide or down-well adsorbent.
