TmadwelMdb
•
2.1.2 Area 11
This site is located west of Area 10 at 300 North Harrison Street. Currently there are no
structures on site, although about half of the site is covered with a steel-reinforced concrete slab
that was likely the floor for the former warehouse (Figure 3).
This site was reportedly formerly a delta island, reclaimed during the 1920s, and used for steel
fabrication until the early 1970s. Figure 3 shows the approximate locations of former buildings.
2.1.3 Area 20
This site is referred to as the former Western Pacific Rail Road site. The site, currently an
unpaved vacant lot(Figure 6), is north of West Lindsay Street, between North Harrison and
North Madison Streets. This site was originally used as a switching yard for the Western Pacific
Rail Road.
•
2.2 Operable Unit 2
2.2.1 Area 15
This site, located north of Area 10, is referred to as the 423 North Madison Street site and as the
Chase Chevrolet Site. The site was originally developed in the early 1900s and redeveloped in
the 1950s for use as an auto repair facility. Currently, the site has several buildings that are
vacant or involved with automobile repair. Areas between buildings are paved with asphalt or
concrete slabs (Figure 5).
The site was originally developed in the early 1900s and redeveloped in the 1950s for use as an
auto repair facility. Underground storage tanks (USTs), which reportedly stored gasoline, diesel,
and trichloroethane (TCA),have been removed and petroleum hydrocarbon and volatile organic
contamination has been documented (AGE 1997). Remediation activities are ongoing under the
oversight of the SJCEHD.
•
15
25970318.PGS 15 November 2000
