7kadwell&Rollo
•
3. Soil Excavation
4. Pump and treat contaminated groundwater
5. Soil vapor extraction
6. Bioremediation
4.0 DETAILED ALTERNATIVES ANALYSIS
The remedial alternatives have been subdivided by media, provides individual alternative
analyses for soil and groundwater alternatives.
4.1 Soil Remedial Alternatives Initial Screening
The initial screening for soil remedial alternatives produced four general response actions
• (Tables 3 and 4). The No-Action Alternative was considered to reflect the current conditions at
OU 1 and portions of OU 2.
4.1.1 Containment
Two remedial alternatives were selected for Containment. Capping with engineered material
(asphalt/concrete, imported fill, and synthetic liner) is both technically possible and protective, as
is excavation and on-site reimplacement of the contaminated soil with subsequent filling and
capping. Capital and operations and maintenance costs are low to moderate. Both actions were
retained for further evaluation.
4.1.2 Removal
Source area excavation involving the off-site removal of contaminated soil is technically feasible
and protective, with low to moderate capital and operations and maintenance costs. Removal
was retained for further evaluation.
•
21
25970318.PGS 15 November 2000
