Additional Phase I and Phas, Environmental Site Assessments Tracy, California
Home Depot, U.S.A. Inc.
including spilled paint cans was observed on the ground surface south of the ditch and north of
Grant Line Road.
The Phase U sampling program consisted of advancing four direct push borings to a maximum
depth of 16 feet below ground surface (bgs), sampling of soil and groundwater encountered
within the borings, and collecting composite samples of surficial soils in three areas of the
property.
The samples were analyzed for the following constituents:
• Four soil samples from the borings were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel
and motor oil (TPH-d).
• Four groundwater grab samples were analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline
(TPH-g), TPH-d and for volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
• Three surface soil composite samples were analyzed for organophosphate pesticides and for
chlorinated pesticides and herbicides.
Based on the additional Phase I and Phase U assessment results, WESTON presents the
following conclusions:
• No significant environmental hazards were observed on the subject property or on adjacent
properties.
• Although a significant number of rodent burrows were observed on the subject property, no
indications of the burrowing owl, a Federal and California Species of Concern, were
observed by the WESTON representative. Home Depot separately commissioned a biological
survey firm to more definitively evaluate the possible presence of burrowing owls.
• No physical indication (i.e., appearance or odor) of environmental impacts was observed in
any of the soils or groundwater sampled at the property.
• Analyses of the subsurface soil and groundwater grab samples for total petroleum
hydrocarbons in the diesel and motor oil ranges (TPH-d) and for volatile organic compounds
(VOCs) yielded non-detect results. Therefore, no indications of impacts to subsurface soils or
groundwater from petroleum hydrocarbons or VOCs were found in the study area, including
one boring situated near the Chevron pipeline.
• Analyses for organochlorine pesticides, organophosphate pesticides, and chlorinated
herbicides in surficial soil composite samples yielded non-detect results. Therefore, no
indications of any impacts to soils from these types of pesticides and herbicides were found
in the study area.
G:home\clarkeb\projects\homedepo\tracy\addp I&2.doc ES-2 October 2000
