HAZARDOUS MATERIALS CONTROL PLAN
Ghai Management has developed and implemented a written Hazard Communication Plan as part of its overall
health and safety program. The purpose of this Hazard Communication Program is to ensure that hazardous
substances used in the workplace are properly evaluated and that information about such substances is
communicated to employees. Hazardous substances, for the purposes of this section are any substances which
are a physical hazard or a health hazard or are included in the List of Hazardous Substances.
A hazardous material spill is one in which there is a significant amount of a hazardous material released or one
in which the release of the substance cannot be controlled. Examples of hazardous materials in quantities that
would be considered a spill are: more than one gallon of bleach, Carbon Dioxide, over one gallon of gasoline,
and any mixture of chemicals that cause a toxic gas. Examples of infectious materials include blood and other
body fluids.
A hazardous exposure is when someone, employee or other, has been exposed directly or indirectly (e.g.,
transference) to a hazardous substance resulting in an adverse health condition.
Hazardous Materials Response
Evacuation
In the event that a Hazardous Materials Spill is discovered on the property, the employee who finds the spill
should perform the following steps (the C.A.P.E. process):
1. Close the door. If you discover a Hazardous Materials Spill in a room, close the door to compartmentalize
any noxious fumes and prevent the spill from spreading.
2. Activate the alarm. Notify all employees of the spill.
3. Phone After you have activated the alarm, and if it is safe to do so, call 911 to report the spill to
Emergency Responders. Stay on the line with 911 and provide all the information relating to the nature of
the emergency. Stay calm and do not hang up the phone until told to do so, or it becomes unsafe to
remain in the area. Contact the Environmental Health Department for your location. Contact your District
Manager and provide all the information.
4. Evacuate the immediate area. Assist guests and employees in evacuating the immediate area.
S. All employees should go to the evacuation point and await further instructions (see evacuation point on
the map at each location).
6. If the hazardous material comes in contact with your skin immediately flush the affected area with copious
amounts of water for at least 15 minutes, then seek medical attention.
7. DO NOT return to the building until you are informed that it is safe to do so. If Emergency Services has
been notified, then they are the only ones to give the ALL CLEAR to return.
Page 1 Last revised:02/19/2020 by Vicki Nall
