Containment <br /> 1. Unless you have been trained, DO NOT attempt to clean up the spill yourself. <br /> 2. Notify the District Manager, the Director of Loss Prevention, and the General Manager, call 911 if needed <br /> 3. Cordon off the area and advise others to stay away <br /> 4. If necessary, shut down the HVAC system to this area <br /> 5. Employees should make themselves available to the first responders to aid and assist in clean up if it's safe <br /> to do so. <br /> 6. Employees who have critical information regarding the hazardous material should make themselves <br /> available to Emergency Personnel. <br /> 7. Provide as much of the following information as possible: <br /> • Where has the hazardous material spill occurred? Be detailed in your information <br /> • Has there been a fire and/or explosion? <br /> • Are there any injuries? If so, how many? <br /> • What material has been spilled? <br /> • What is the state of the material (i.e., solid, liquid, gas, combination)? <br /> • Is any of the hazardous material escaping from the spill location in the form of chemical vapors/fumes <br /> or running or dripping liquid? <br /> 8. If Police and/or Fire has been notified; once they arrive on scene they are in control. <br /> 9. A recovery area should be set up if there have been any exposures to the incident to provide care. Direct <br /> Emergency Medical Services to this area. <br /> 10. No one may return to the area until it is safe to do so. <br /> Exposure <br /> 1. If the hazardous material comes in contact with your skin immediately flush the affected area with copious <br /> amounts of water (or as directed in the first aid section of the SDS) for at least 15 minutes, then seek <br /> medical attention. <br /> 2. Notify your District Manager and contact 911 if needed. <br /> 3. If the hazardous material is a possible infectious material refer to the Blood Borne Pathogen section of this <br /> manual for more information. <br /> 4. If the hazardous material is a chemical substance refer to the appropriate Safety Data Sheet or label and <br /> follow all first aid instructions given. <br /> 5.
