Geomatrix
the soil beneath the stockpiles and to evaluate the necessity for additional assessment of
groundwater in these areas. The actual depth of each boring will be based on field conditions
encountered during drilling.
Continuous sampling will be attempted from ground surface to the total depth of each boring.
Recovered soil will be field screened for organic vapors using a photoionization detector(PID)
and soil types will be described and recorded by a Geomatrix geologist or engineer using the
Unified Soil Classification Scheme (USCS). Soil samples designated for chemical analysis
will be collected in an acetate liner. The ends of the acetate liner will be covered with
TeflonTM, which will be secured in place with plastic end caps and sealed with TeflonTM tape.
Samples, once packaged and labeled, will be placed in an ice-filled chest for delivery to the
laboratory.
After completion of soil sampling, each boring will be destroyed by backfilling with a
bentonite-cement grout. After the grout in each boring has been allowed to settle and has been
topped off, the boring will be capped with asphalt cold patch to match surrounding surface
conditions.
5.3 LABORATORY ANALYSIS
Soil samples will be shipped to GeoAnalytical Laboratory located in Modesto, California(a
State of California Department of Health Services Environmental Accreditation Program
[ELAP] certified laboratory),following chain-of-custody protocol. Soil samples collected from
depths of 1, 2.5, 5, and 10 feet bgs will be analyzed by the laboratory for the following:
• TPHd using EPA Method 8015 M;
• Total Cr using EPA Method 6010; and
• Cr VI using EPA Method 7199.
In addition to the total concentrations, each soil sample will be analyzed further for the
extractable concentrations of the above listed constituents using Title 22 DIWET method.
5.4 EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION AND WASTE CONTAINMENT
Sampling equipment(hand augers, direct push rods, drive sampler, or other downhole
equipment) will be re-used between sample locations. To reduce the potential for cross-
contamination, re-usable sampling equipment will be decontaminated using the following
procedure:
PAl0626.000.O\Docs\MLT Soil Work Plan.doc 8
