Geomatrix
• wash and scrub in the non-phosphate detergent and potable water (first bucket);
• rinse or soak in potable water(second bucket);
• rinse in DI water(third bucket); and
• final rinse with DI water and air dried.
Decontamination water will be temporarily stored in 5-gallon buckets and transferred to a
55-gallon labeled drum at the end of each day. Decontamination water and soil cuttings
generated during the investigation will be temporarily stored on-site in DOT-approved, labeled
55-gallon drums. MonierLifetile will handle and manage the disposition of the drums.
6.0 FIELD AND LABOROATRY QA/QC PROCEDURES
As part of the soil investigation, standard quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC)
procedures will be used during sampling and laboratory analysis. These activities are described
in the following subsections.
6.1 QA/QC PROCEDURES FOR SOM
Several types of QA/QC samples will be taken to assure the quality of the data obtained during
and following sampling. The types of field and laboratory QA/QC samples that will be utilized
during the implementation of this Work Plan are described below.
6.1.1 Field QC Samples
The field QA/QC samples include equipment blanks and soil duplicate samples. These QA/QC
samples are summarized below:
• Equipment Blanks- Equipment blank samples will be used to evaluate the
potential for cross contamination due to sample transport and sample collection.
Equipment blanks primarily provide a check on possible contamination from
sampling instruments used to collect and transfer samples from the point of
collection into sample containers. Equipment blanks are prepared by pouring
laboratory provided die-ionized water over the decontaminated sample equipment
and collecting the water in the appropriate containers. Equipment blanks will be
collected at a frequency of one per 20 samples collected. At a minimum, one
equipment blank will be collected each day.
• Field duplicates—Field duplicate soil samples will be collected at frequency of one
duplicate sample per every 20 soil samples collected. At a minimum, one soil
duplicate sample will be collected at each Facility during the investigation.
PAI 0626.000.0\Docs\MLT Soil Work Plan.doc 9
