SITE SAFETY PLAN
The operations site safety plan for the Twining personnel assigned to the project are discussed in
the following subsections.
It is the responsibility of all Twining personnel associated with the project to familiarize
themselves with this site safety plan.
B-1 Potential Health and Safety Hazards: Information developed regarding the site indicates
that Volatile Organic Constituents products and Asbestos are the potentially hazardous substance
that has been stored on-site.
VOC's
Symptoms of direct exposure to significant concentrations of VOCs may include: eye, nose, or
skin irritation,nausea, and unconsciousness.
If any of these symptoms develop, operations will be stopped immediately and medical attention
will be obtained, as necessary.
First aid procedures for direct exposure to the on-site materials are:
• Skin: Remove contaminated clothing immediately. Flush affected area immediately
with water, then wash with soap and water.
• Eves: Hold eyelid open and flush the eye with water.
• Lungs: Move to fresh air immediately. Give artificial respiration as necessary.
ASBESTOS:
Asbestos is the name given to fibrous silicate mineral. Asbestos is not always an immediate
hazard. It is only when asbestos containing material(ACM) are disturbed or the materials
become damaged that becomes a hazard. When the materials become damaged, the fibers
separates and then become airborne. The term Friable is used to described asbestos that can be
reduced to dust. Non-friable materials, such as transite siding or piping are not regulated
provided it does not become friable. When asbestos occurred in a white fiber(friable) form it
should be dealt with according to standard health and safety procedures for asbestos. Once the
presence of asbestos is confirmed at the workplace, warning signs shall be displayed at each
regulated area(asbestos containing areas). In addition warning signs shall be posted at all
approaches to regulated areas so that employees may read the signs and take necessary protective
steps before entering the area.
PPE:
Worker dealing with asbestos containing material must wear a tight-fitting air-purifying
respirator, coveralls, gloves, head coverings, foot coverings, face shields, and vented goggles. At
the job site asbestos shall be handled, mixed, applied, removed, cut, scored or otherwise worked
in a wet state sufficient to prevent the emission of airborne fibers.
The PPE shall be cleaned, launder, repair, or replaced to maintain their effectiveness. The worker
shall not leave the workplace wearing any clothing or equipments worn during the work shift.
