k" KLEINFELDER
4 ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED
Field activities included a geophysical survey of the proposed March Lane Extension within the
building area of Blossom Ranch. Kleinfelder also collected a total of 17 soil samples from five
shallow hand-augered soil borings and two drilled soil borings. One soil sample was obtained
from each of the five shallow hand-augered soil borings advanced randomly across the site.
Each of the five soil samples were submitted for selected agricultural chemical analyses. Twelve
soil samples were collected from the two soil borings advanced in suspect UST areas, based on
the geophysical survey and field observations. Eight of the twelve soil samples were submitted
for analyses for selected petroleum constituents.
4.1 GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY
On October 22, 1998, a geophysical survey was conducted by Norcal Geophysical Consultants,
Inc. of Petaluma, California. The survey was conducted to assess potential underground storage
tanks (USTs) locations within the proposed March Lane Extension traversing the building area of
Blossom Ranch. The centerline of the proposed extension was marked by Kjeldsen, Sinnock &
Neudeck of Stockton, California, with several stakes trending east and west through the Blossom
Ranch Area. The Norcal survey included a 100 foot wide strip by approximately 500 feet of the
proposed March Lane extension within the building area of Blossom Ranch. The 100 foot strip
was based on centerline stakes of the proposed extension labeled 10013 through 10018.
A copy of Norcal's report and maps are included in Appendix C of this report. Norcal's magnetic
contour map was divided into two areas (See Plates 1 and 2 of Norcal's report) due to obstruction
of onsite buildings in which the centerline passed through. The two areas are somewhat irregular
in shape, due to the various buildings and surface obstructions. Although the magnetic contour
map was influenced by these obstructions, four areas of interest were observed.
Three magnetic contour areas discussed in Norcal's report were noted in Area 1 (western
segment), and one in Area 2 (eastern segment). Magnetic contours of interest in the eastern
segment was attributed to two 55-gallon BBQ grills. The western-most portion of interest within
Area 1 was interpreted by Norcal as an underground utility, such as a water line. The two
remaining features in Area 1 were located just north of the hulling shed and near the southeast
corner of the"cinder block addition" (See Plate 3). Additional soil assessment was conducted in
these two areas (See Section 4.3 of this report). There was no clear interpretation of the magnetic
contours observed north of the hulling shed due to interference of structures. The magnetic
contours in the vicinity of the cinder block addition was interpreted as buried scrap. However,
field observations in the near vicinity of the cinder block building noted a rectangular patch of
asphalt(typical of a former UST removal).
20-3712-08.E02/2018R1090 Page 6 of 17
©1998,Kleinfelder,Inc.
