k'q KLEINFELDER
2 SITE SETTING
2.1 SITE LOCATION
The project site area is located within the proposed March Lane Extension between the SPRR
and Holman Road in Stockton, California (Plate 1). The Subject area includes a 74 foot wide
strip of proposed roadway beginning at the SPRR and extending west through the Sperry
Property and Blossom Ranch to Holman Road. The address for the Sperry Property is currently
unknown. Blossom Ranch is located at 5247 Holman Road. The proposed extension in situated
in Section 26, Township 2 North, Range 6 East, of the Mount Diablo Baseline and Meridian.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey 7.5-minute Lodi South, California topographic
quadrangle map, photorevised 1968, the site is relatively flat with an approximate surface
elevation of 25 feet above mean sea level.
2.2 CURRENT SITE USE AND VICINITY CHARACTERISTICS
Approximately one quarter of the western portion of the subject site traverses the Sperry Property
which consists of row crops. The eastern portion of the site extends across Blossom Ranch,
which includes a walnut orchard and a building area near Holman Road. The building area is
used for processing of walnuts. The surrounding areas to the north and south are agricultural.
New residential developments were noted both west of SPRR and east of Holman Road.
2.3 GEOLOGY AND HYDROGEOLOGY
The site lies within the Great Valley Geomorphic Province of California. The valley is
approximately 400 miles long and averages about 50 miles wide, and comprises about 20,000
square miles. The valley has been filled with a thick sequence of marine and non-marine
sediments from the late Jurassic to Holocene. The uppermost strata of the Great Valley
represents, for the most part, the alluvial, flood, and delta plains of two major rivers (Sacramento
and San Joaquin Rivers) and their tributaries.
The valley deposits are derived from the Coast Ranges to the west and the Sierra Nevada to the
east. Granitic and metamorphic rocks outcrop along the eastern and southeastern flanks of the
valley. Marine sedimentary rocks outcrop along most of the western, southwestern, southern,
and southeastern flanks; and volcanic rocks and deposits outcrop along the northeastern flanks of
the valley. The valley geomorphology includes dissected uplands, low alluvial plains and fans,
river flood plains and channels, and overflow lands and lake bottoms.
The site itself is located in the northern portion of the San Joaquin Valley in an area characterized
by alluvial deposits from the Mokulumne River and others.
20-3712-08.E02/2018R1090 Page 3 of 17
©1998,Kleinfelder,Inc.
