5_
August 10, 1998 FLUOR DANIEL GTI
Mr. Bob DeNinno
The Southland Corporatiion
10220 S.W. Greenburg Road, Suite 470
Portland, Oregon 97233
RE: Executive Summary
Southland Store (7-Eleven) No. 17647
1048 West Yosemite Avenue
Manteca, California
Dear Mr. Knoll:
The following includes a summary of proposed activities to be completed at the subject site.
Background
The subject site is located on the southeast corner West Yosemite Avenue and EI Portal Avenue
intersection in Manteca (Attachment 1, Figures). The site is owned by The Southland Corporation and
currently contains two 10,000-gallon and one 6,000-gallon gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs)
and associated fuel dispensers.
An Underground Storage Tank Unauthorized Release (Leak)/Contamination Site Report has been filed
for the site; however, to date, no environmental investigations have been conducted at the site.
Underground Storage Tank Removal/Installation
During August or early September 1998, the Southland Corporation plans to remove the two 10,000-
gallon and one 6,000-gallon single-walled steel USTs at the site and associated fuel dispensers and
replace them with two 10,000-gallon double-walled steel tanks and new fuel dispensers. During
removal of the existing USTs an estimated 150 cubic yards of tank overburden material will be removed
and stockpiled on site. The soil material will be sampled for proper characterization. The material will
either be transported from the site by a licensed waste hauler to an approved disposal facility or used
as backfill material. Soil samples will be collected beneath each end of the three USTs and
associated product piping at the direction and observation of the San Joaquin County Public Health
17647EXE.LTR
757 Arnold Drive, Suite D / Martinez, CA 94553 USA (510) 370-3990 FAX (510) 370-3991
0
