Executive Summary 2
Southland Store No. 17647, 1048 W.Yosemite Avenue,Manteca,California August 10, 1998
Services Environmental Health Division (SJCEHD). Samples will be analyzed for BTEX and TPH-G by
EPA methods 8015/8020, the oxygenates: TBA, MTBE, DIPE, ETBE, TAME by EPA method 8260, and
total lead by EPA method 6010. If groundwater is encountered, water samples will be collected and
analyzed for the same analytes as the soil.
Following removal of the existing USTs at the site, construction activity will begin to install the new USTs
and dispenser island at the site. The new tanks will be installed on the northwestern portion of the
property with the new fuel dispensers placed slightly north of the existing dispensers. Approximately
500 cubic yards of soil will be generated during the excavation of the new tank pit. Soil samples will be
collected to characterize the soil. Soil samples will also be collected from the floor of the new tank pit
excavation.
If groundwater is encountered in the new tank excavation, tank pit dewatering may be required to
facilitate installation of the new tanks. Samples will be collected of the groundwater for proper
characterization. If the water sample analytical results indicate the water is impacted with gasoline
hydrocarbons, the water will be removed from the tank excavation using vacuum trucks and
transported as non-hazardous to a licensed treatment facility. If hydrocarbon-impacted
soil/groundwater is encountered in the new tank pit excavation, ten-inch diameter conductor casing(s)
may be installed between the two new tanks to be used in future site investigations. All soil and/or
groundwater sampling at the site will be conducted under the direction and observation of the SJCEHD.
A majority of the soil generated will be used to backfill the old tank excavation. The remaining soil will
either be hauled to a local landfill or a licensed waste disposal facility.
Future Activities at the Site
If contamination is encountered, a work plan for site assessment will be submitted to the SJCEHD. The
site assessment may include installation of soil borings or groundwater monitoring wells define the
extent of impacted soil and groundwater beneath the site. A well search will also be conducted to
locate all water supply wells within a 2,000-foot radius of the site.
17647 EXE.LTR
FLUOR DANIEL GTI
04
