(PEI). The Report was submitted in response to the 28 November 2012 <br /> Regional Water Board letter requesting a work plan to further define the vertical and horizontal <br /> extent of soil and groundwater pollution at the Site. Previous investigations found elevated <br /> levels of benzene and 1,2-dichloropropane in Site groundwater and several areas with elevated <br /> heavy-end petroleum hydrocarbons (C23-C35) in Site soils. <br /> The Work Plan investigation is designed to provide additional soil and groundwater data from <br /> the septic system area (GW-1), interior concrete patches (SB-112 and SV-25), and the interior <br /> trench drain area (GW-3). The Report proposes the installation and sampling of eight <br /> groundwater monitoring wells. Soil boring collection and analysis are planned for the interior of <br /> the warehouse and the exterior eight monitoring well boreholes. Soil and groundwater sampling <br /> is focused on assessing impacts to shallow soils and groundwater(approximately 0 to 26 feet <br /> below ground surface).underlying the Site. <br /> Staff of the Regional Water-Board approve this Site Assessment Work Plan, on the condition <br /> that the following comments will be addressed in the Work Plan: <br /> 1. The Report states that mercury in soil and groundwater will be analyzed using EPA <br /> Method 6010b. In a 5/1/2013 email, PEI indicated that EPA Method 7470A <br /> (PQL=0.0005 mg/L)would be used for analysis of mercury in groundwater and EPA <br /> Method 7471A(PQL=0.01 mg/kg)for•analysis.of mercury in soil. Staff concur with the <br /> use of EPA Methods 7470A and 7471A for analysis of mercury in groundwater and soil, <br /> respectively. <br /> 2. The Report states that arsenic in soil and groundwater will be analyzed using EPA <br /> Method 6010b. In a 5/1/2013 email, PEI indicated that its laboratory reporting limits for <br /> arsenic in groundwater and soil using EPA Method 6010b is PQL=0.01 mg/L and <br /> KARL E.
