4
9).Observe for uncontrolled discharge from truck.
10).Observe for hose breaches.
11).Observe for tank back siphon from a hose breach.
12).Call 911 for Fire Department assistance if a leak is beyond control.
13). Never operate anything on the truck unless the operator is incapacitated.
F. OIL DISTRIBUTION
Secondary containment over the entire floor area is not feasible. The oil lines are under continuous
pressure and have the potential to empty the whole tank onto the floor by residual pressure or siphon if
an open line is created. In order to limit a discharge to just the volume of the line (2gal), it is critical to:
1). Report nozzles that drip when not in use.
2).Wipe down slippery oil gun hoses and report connections that drip.
3). Report lines that have become brittle, frayed, bulged or cracked.
4).Shut down and release the residual tank pressure in the air compressor when the shop is
unattended.
5). Lock air compressor power supply when shop is unattended.
G.WASTE OIL COLLECTION
Secondary containment under the oil collection truck is not feasible. Therefore in order to limit the
potential spill to just the volume of the hose(13gal), redundant observation by an individual with
working knowledge of the truck's panic shut of procedure must be provided. A designated employee is
to:
1). Introduce themselves to the oil delivery operator.
2). Inform the operator that they are the designated redundant observer incase of operator
— incapacitation.
3).Get quick training on the truck's panic shut off.
4).Clear access to the tank by providing good housekeeping.
5). Look for missing bulkhead covers and plugs.
6).Stay focused on the task at hand.
7). Observe for and clean up any oil escapement.
8). Observe for uncontrolled discharge from truck.
9). Observe for hose breaches.
10).Observe for tank back siphon from a hose breach.
11).Call 911 for Fire Department assistance if a leak is beyond control.
12). Never operate anything on the truck unless the operator is incapacitated.
It is not feasible to provide secondary containment over the entire floor area. In order to limit a
discharge to just the volume of the trolley pan (37gal), it is critical to:
1). Empty the trolley pans each night to prevent an unattended release.
2). Stencil the 37 gallon capacity on the trolley pans.
3). Report lines and connections that drip.
4). Keep trolley pan under oil plug and filter while starting the car and checking the integrity of
the installation.
5). Each trolley pan can displace 6" of the waste oil tank. Make sure there is sufficient depth
available in the waste oil tank before empting the trolley pan.
H.SOLID WASTE
1).Always use a pail to carry the spent filters,to prevent drips on the ground.
26 of 33
