for an individual at the proposed school site were determined to be insignificant." This
report is enclosed in Appendix G.
A Geologic Hazard and Geotechnical Engineering Report dated June 29, 2006 by WKA
is an updated Geotechnical report detailing the current 11.7 acre property including the
proposed school footprint.
In August of 2006, a Pre-Demolition Asbestos and Lead Based Paint Survey was
conducted on the buildings on Site. This report identifies that no asbestos was found in
either the house or garage. Lead based paint was found both inside and outside of the
house and the outside of the garage. This report is enclosed in Appendix H.
Aperio Inc. completed a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment Update for the Proposed
Podesta Ranch Elementary School, dated November 17, 2006 regarding the current
proposed school site.
4.0 POTENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS
The Site is located above the Harte Gas Field as defined by the California Department of
Conservation, Division of Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources (DOGGR), Oil and Gas
Map#606. EDR lists 13 oil and/or gas wells within one mile of the Site, however none
of these wells are located on Site. Figure 3 in Appendix A displays the locations of the
eight nearest oil wells to the Site. The closest well, the "Foppiano" well (lat. 38.04612 N,
long. 121.32338 W) is approximately 200 feet to the west of the Site. Another well, the
"KCY-Reserve Podesta Unit" well (lat 38.04355 N, 121.3224 W) is approximately 500
feet to the southeast of the Site. The DOGGR, Oil and Gas Map#606 shows that both of
these wells were"plugged and abandoned dry holes". Consequently, no oil and/or gas
wells are located on the Site and the nearest wells never were producing wells. However,
the Site may be impacted by soil vapors from the gas field.
The barn on Site as evidenced by aerial photo's from 1957-1982, was demolished during
the 1990's. Soil contamination from lead and OCP's is likely to exist around the
foundation of the former structure. Barns are commonly used for storing and or
maintaining machinery, and potentially storing and mixing fertilizers and or pesticides.
Sampling by WKA in 2005 and 2006 identified lead and chlordane contamination at the
Site. However, further clarification of the depth and breadth of the contamination needs
to be confirmed. Deeper lead samples and surface step out chlordane samples need to be
collected to complete the characterization of the contaminates.
The 2003 ESA for this Site identified an area within the larger school boundary at that
time as potentially containing fill. It is unclear as to the extent of that potential fill and
' Latitude and longitude provided by Environmental Data Resources,Radius Map with
Geocheck0,November 3,2006.
Preliminary Environmental Assessment Workplan
Proposed Podesta Ranch Elementary School
December 4,2006
