PRELIMINARY ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT WORKPLAN
FOR THE PROPOSED PODESTA RANCH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
1.0 INTRODUCTION
On behalf of the Lodi Unified School District(LUSD), Aperio Inc. has prepared this
Preliminary Environmental Assessment Workplan (Workplan)for a proposed elementary
school, tentatively designated the Podesta Ranch Elementary School (Site). This report
generally follows the procedures outlined in the Department of Toxic Substances Control
(DTSC) Preliminary Endangerment Assessment Guidance Manual(PEA Manual) first
published in 1994 and 2nd printing in 1999.
1.1 Purpose and General Scope of Work
The general purpose of the work proposed in this report is to evaluate potential
contamination issues and exposure levels associated with historical land use practices at
the site. This Workplan includes site background information, health and safety
requirements, and descriptions of the proposed fieldwork and laboratory analysis. This
report was developed using the DTSC Interim Guidance For Sampling Agricultural
Fields for School Sites, Second Revision, (Ag. Guidance) dated August 26, 2002, and
with discussions with a DTSC Project Manager, from the School Services Unit.
1.2 Involved Parties
An Assistant Superintendent for the Lodi Unified School District, Mr. Art Hand Jr., has
requested Aperio Inc. to prepare this workplan. The primary contact person at Aperio
Inc. is Mr. David Wood, a California Professional Geologist.
1.3 General Contents
This workplan generally follows the Workplan as presented by the DTSC for previous
environmental investigations by Aperio Inc. Included in this report are a description of
the Site, background information, potential environmental concerns, the environmental
setting, the proposed scope of work for the PEA, the anticipated schedule, references and
signatures of the required professionals.
2.0 SITE DESCRIPTION
Currently, the Site consists of approximately nine acres of disced fields and
approximately two acres of interspersed trees surrounding the former house, domestic
water well, and a garage. Both the well and the structures were scheduled for demolition
in December 1, 2006. LUSD has fenced and gated the property to deter access.
Preliminary Environmental Assessment Workplan
Proposed Podesta Ranch Elementary School
December 4,2006
