PRELIMINARY ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT WORKPLAN <br /> FOR THE PROPOSED PODESTA RANCH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL <br /> 1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> On behalf of the Lodi Unified School District(LUSD), Aperio Inc. has prepared this <br /> Preliminary Environmental Assessment Workplan (Workplan)for a proposed elementary <br /> school, tentatively designated the Podesta Ranch Elementary School (Site). This report <br /> generally follows the procedures outlined in the Department of Toxic Substances Control <br /> (DTSC) Preliminary Endangerment Assessment Guidance Manual(PEA Manual) first <br /> published in 1994 and 2nd printing in 1999. <br /> 1.1 Purpose and General Scope of Work <br /> The general purpose of the work proposed in this report is to evaluate potential <br /> contamination issues and exposure levels associated with historical land use practices at <br /> the site. This Workplan includes site background information, health and safety <br /> requirements, and descriptions of the proposed fieldwork and laboratory analysis. This <br /> report was developed using the DTSC Interim Guidance For Sampling Agricultural <br /> Fields for School Sites, Second Revision, (Ag. Guidance) dated August 26, 2002, and <br /> with discussions with a DTSC Project Manager,from the School Services Unit. <br /> 1.2 Involved Parties <br /> An Assistant Superintendent for the Lodi Unified School District, Mr. Art Hand Jr., has <br /> requested Aperio Inc. to prepare this workplan. The primary contact person at Aperio <br /> Inc. is Mr. David Wood, a California Professional Geologist. <br /> 1.3 General Contents <br /> This workplan generally follows the Workplan as presented by the DTSC for previous <br /> environmental investigations by Aperio Inc. Included in this report are a description of <br /> the Site, background information, potential environmental concerns, the environmental <br /> setting, the proposed scope of work for the PEA, the anticipated schedule, references and <br /> signatures of the required professionals. <br /> 2.0 SITE DESCRIPTION <br /> Currently, the Site consists of approximately nine acres of disced fields and <br /> approximately two acres of interspersed trees surrounding the former house, domestic <br /> water well, and a garage. Both the well and the structures were scheduled for demolition <br /> in December 1, 2006.
