b. Mineral acids and oxidizers are not stored together; and <br />C. Oxidizers are not stored with or near combustible materials like <br />wood pallets, paper products, etc. <br />2. Storage conditions: <br />a. Hazardous substances containers are not stacked on each other; <br />b. Flammable materials (gas, liquids and solids) are stored only in <br />flammable storage cabinets or rooms; <br />C. Exists are not blocked or access restricted by stored materials in <br />storage rooms and buildings; <br />d. Gas cylinders stored and/or in service are securely held with a <br />restraining strap or chain in fixed or portable racks, <br />e. Appropriate secondary containment is provided which is compatible <br />with the hazardous substance(s) and has the capacity to contain a <br />release from the stored hazardous substance(s); and <br />f. The storage area/unit is provided with proper ventilation to prevent <br />the build up of toxic, flammable, combustible and/or reactive <br />vapors. <br />6.6.3. Consult the hazardous substance's MSDS information on proper storage, <br />labeling and maintenance requirements. <br />6.6.4. The facility's EE is responsible for insuring that all stored hazardous substances <br />are inspected and inventoried on a routine basis (quarterly at a minimum). <br />6.6.5. Each area/unit that is used to store a hazardous substance will be inspected for <br />the following conditions: <br />1. The area/unit is properly labeled as a hazardous substances storage <br />area, including any special storage requirements (i.e., flammable <br />materials only, acids only, caustics only, etc.); <br />2. That the area/unit is used only for storage of compatible hazardous <br />substances or hazardous wastes (i.e., refrigerators that are used to store <br />hazardous substances are not used to store food and are labeled <br />accordingly, acids are not stored with bases, etc.); <br />3. That the area/unit is equipped with appropriate secondary containment to <br />contain the material in the event of a spill (i.e., Berm for drum storage, drip <br />Draft HMMP <br />March, 2000 H M M P-9 <br />
