DRAFT
1.5.1 Facility Description and Operations Review
QBR receives used, aged and overstocked automotive brake parts (shoes and
calipers) and, depending on the condition of the incoming stock, repackages,
refurbishes and/or remanufactures the brake parts for wholesale distribution.
QBR=s manufacturing operations are segregated into two divisions: The Friction Unit
and the Caliper Unit. Each manufacturing unit operates independent of the other. A
third division of QBR, the Services Unit, provides administrative and management
support (i.e., Human Resources, Safety and Environmental, Management of
Information Systems and Executive Management) to the two manufacturing
divisions.
1.5.1.1 Friction Division
The Friction Team repackages, refurbishes and/or manufactures used and new
brake shoes, as well as manufactures new brake pads. QBR=s Friction Division
receives and manufactures both bonded and riveted brake shoes. The two types of
pads manufactured by QBR include an integrally molded (IM) brake pad and a
riveted brake pad.
Control Plans and Process Flow Charts for each of the Friction Division=s four
manufacturing processes are provided in Section 5: Appendisces:
1.5.1.1.1 Disc Pad Manufacturing: The incoming raw materials (i.e., new
pads and associated hardware) are received and inspected at the
facility=s covered Receiving Dock (see Figure 1: Site Layout Plan).
Inspected raw materials are then stored inside the facility=s main
warehouse/manufacturing building until scheduled for assembly and
packaging.
Manufacturing of the IM disc pad is limited to attachment of the pad
hardware, inspecting the final product and packaging of the assembled
unit. Manufacturing of the riveted disc pad is limited to riveting of the
pads and testing the rivets, attaching the pad hardware, inspecting the
final product and packaging of the assembled unit.
CATEWSMPREV2.&C Section 1-9
