DRAFT
Manufacturing, packaging and storage of the finished product are
conducted inside QBR=s main manufacturing and warehouse building
(See Figure 1). There is no direct or indirect exposure of stormwater
or surface drainage to QBR=s brake pad manufacturing operations.
1.5.1.1.2 Brake Shoe Manufacturing: The brake shoe cores (used, aged
and overstocked units) are received at the facility=s covered Receiving
Dock (see Figure 1). The cores are then processed through the
Friction Division=s Core Washer.
The Core Washer is located outside in QBR=s Manufacturing Yard on
a bermed and concreted pad. Washwater, and stormwater that has
come in contact with the Core Washer, is collected, contained and
recycled for re -use through QBR=s Washwater Recycling System,
which is staged adjacent to the Core Washer in the site=s
Manufacturing Yard.
Once the cores have been cleaned, they are inspected and sorted by
part number. Accepted cores are stored in QBR=s bermed and
concrete -paved Manufacturing Yard in racks either in covered 55 -
gallon drums or on pallets until scheduled for assembly and
packaging. Scraped cores are stored in cover bins staged outside at
QBR=s graveled Equipment Storage Yard (see Figure 1) until shipped
offsite for scrap metal recycling.
Riveted brake shoe cores are processed through QBR=s
Stripper/Knockout operation to remove the existing rivets and friction
material. Similarly, the bonded brake shoe cores are processed
through QBR=s De -bonding Oven, where the existing bonded friction
material is Abaked- off the shoe. Both the Stripper/Knockout
operation and the De -Bonding operation take place outside in QBR=s
Manufacturing Yard on a bermed and concrete pad.
The Stripper/Knockout operation takes place undercover. To control
employee exposure to fugitive dusts that may be generated during the
stripping/knockout process, the core parts are wetted down with a fine
mist prior to being placed into the stripper/knockout equipment.
CATENIMMPREV2.doc Section 1-10
