Contact with trash, debris &
Dirt, debris, greases,
scrap that has been
metals
disposed of to the trash bins
located outside
1.6 Best Management Practices
Once potential and existing sources of stormwater contamination have been identified, the
next step is to select proper measures to eliminate or reduce pollutant loadings in the
stormwater discharges. Best Management Practices (BMPs) are measures used to prevent
or mitigate stormwater from becoming contaminated with pollutants.
BMPs are broad ranging and may include processes, procedures, and structural controls.
The BMPs selected reduce and/or prevent contamination by stressing the importance of
stormwater management and employee awareness of potential pollutant sources. QBR=s
SWPPP=s BMPs address the following:
X Good Housekeeping,
X Preventive Maintenance,
X Visual Inspections,
X Spill Prevention and Response,
X Employee Training,
X Record keeping and Reporting, and
X Non-Stormwater Discharges
The BMPs implemented at QBR emphasizes controlling exposure of stormwater to the
site's industrial and commercial operations. Pollution reduction and elimination at the
source has proven to be an effective approach in protecting the environment.
BMPs to be implemented, and maintained at all times, at the site include the following:
CATEMMMPREV2.doc Section 1-17
