II . Corrosive Liquids : All corrosive liquids should be stored
on pallets at least 50 ft. away from the flammable liquids .
The corrosive storage area shall be designed so as drain-
age is maintained so as to prevent an accumulation of
liquid or vapor in or around the flammable and poisonous
materials storage.
The area should also be secured from tampering or tress-
passing. Warning placards stating "CORROSIVE MATERIALS"
shall be placed on the fence securing the corrosive storage.
III . Toxic Materials: A distance of 50 ft. should be maintained
between the flammable and corrosive storage from the toxic
materials storage area. A diking or drainage plan should
be arranged so as to prevent the spreading of spilled ma-
terials beyond the storage area.
The area should be secured from tampering or tresspassing.
Warning placards stating "TOXIC MATERIALS" should be posted
on the fence securing the toxic storage area.
IV. Other Requirements : I would require that all leaking or
damaged containers be disposed of using proper disposal
procedures . I also request that a 20 ft. clear access road
be provided for fire department equipment access to the
flammable and other hazardous materials storage areas; build-
ings ; and conbustible storage areas .
Finally I would like all flammable, corrosive, and toxic
gas cylinders to be stored with their corresponding liquid
storage areas .
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments regarding the
requirements listed above.
Thank you for your concern and efforts in handling this hazardous ma-
terials ' problem in Manteca. Together I feel we can maintain a reason-
able degree of fire and life safety on the 1085 S. Union Rd. , property
area.
Sincerely,
GARY W. SMITH
Fire Prevention Officer
GWS/lp
