Michael Leacox
compaction/permeability properties of the clay. Assisted contractor during excavation of
clay materials to ensure that quality assurance/quality control requirements were met.
Water supply study, Tehachapi, California - Mapped site geology and interpreted
geologic structure of a fault-controlled canyon adjacent to the Garlock fault. Concerns
included the influence of geologic structure upon groundwater movement and
groundwater recharge to a layered alluvial aquifer.
Long-term jail siting study, Orange County, California - Mapped geology of five
areas in the Santa Ana Mountains as part of an environmental impact report to assess
the potential for the sites to be developed as a large jail facility. Concerns included the
relationship of possible landslides, faults, geologic structure, and alluvium depths to
proposed cut and fill slopes and proposed building locations.
Low-level radioactive waste siting repository study, San Bernardino County,
California - Designed construction and installation criteria for the placement of
thermocouple psychrometers and tensiometers horizontally away from 6-foot-diameter,
40-foot-deep caisson for vadose-zone monitoring.
Dry cleaner solvent investigation, Merced, California - Managed, designed, and
implemented field investigation to evaluate the lateral extent of groundwater and soils
impacted with PCE. Investigation included a soil gas survey and the installation of
groundwater monitoring wells. Source concerns included transport through the sewer
system and soils.
Dry cleaner solvent investigation, Sacramento, California - Managed project which
included evaluation of the potential for the public sewer system to have contributed to
the transport of PCE found in a nearby production well. Investigation included a soil gas
survey and drilling of soil borings.
Dry cleaner solvent investigation/site characterization investigation, Davis,
California - Managed and designed a project to evaluate the lateral extent of
groundwater impacted with perch Ioroethene. Investigation included installing soil
borings and monitoring wells, and conducting a soil gas survey.
Remedial investigation/feasibility study, Davis, California - Managed investigation to
evaluate impacted soil and groundwater for a site slated for development that
encompassed one city block. Project required installing 12 monitoring wells and
numerous soil borings, and conducting a soil gas survey. Included was an evaluation of
remedial alternatives for identified impacted groundwater and soil, and cost estimates for
feasible alternatives.
Deep well installation, Lodi, California - Supervising Geologist during the drilling and
installation of a 4,000-foot-deep injection well. Project included drill-stem testing of
formation fluid to evaluate TDS levels in the target formation.
Technical feasibility study, Lodi, California - Prepared preliminary technical feasibility
study evaluating potential subsurface geologic structures to complete a proposed
injection well to receive brine wastes from the plant. Identified the Domengine
sandstone at a depth of 3000 feet, which is capped by overlying and underlying
formations of lower permeability.
