Mr. Robert Garcia , 4 February 2002
Leprino Foods, Inc. 2 >>
require an evaluation to determine whether restarting former extraction wells RW-1 and RW-2 will
enhance the capture of the groundwater contaminant plume. The Letter noted that, at the northern edge
of the site, groundwater TPH-D concentrations rebounded between June and September 2001 in
monitoring wells RW-1 (from 140 µg/L to 310 µg/L) and RW-2 (from 180 µg/L to 230 µg/L). The
Report shows that TPH-d groundwater concentrations increased again in December 2001 at RW-1 (8 80
µg/L) and RW-2 (740 µg/L). We are concerned that the petroleum hydrocarbon plume is moving offsite
at RW-2. Please include the evaluation in the next (semi-annual) groundwater monitoring report, as
requested in our Letter, if the TPH-d concentrations continue to rise at RW-1 and RW-2.
2. The Report shows that SPP thickness in monitoring well MW-4 also increased each quarter from June
2001 (0.56 feet) to December 2001 (1.02 feet). MW-4 is located downgradient of extraction well EW-
5A. Please evaluate whether additional measures are needed to improve SPP removal from MW-4, and
whether there is an additional source area near MW-4.
If you have any/ questions, you may contact me at(916) 255-3050.
aures L.
