Sent- By: RWCCB; 2553439; Sep-6-(Zn 9:46AM; Page 4/4
i
Ms. Jessica Hardy
California Regional Water Quality Control Board
August 25,2000
Page 2
Response - LFC agrees. In accordance with Section 6-3-6 of the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Well Standards, prior to grouting, a hole at least one foot
larger in diameter than the original boring will be excavated to a depth of three
feet below grade. The well casing will be cut at this depth and removed - Grout
used to seal the well will be allowed to fill the excavation to a depth of one foot.
After the grout hardens adequately, the excavation will be backfilled with clean,
inert soil material and covered with asphalt or concrete to match surrounding
surface materials.
Comment 4- 'rhe work plan states,^The sealant desi},m will consider compatibility of the abandoned well
location with future site use." The sealant design should primarily ensure that the well is properly
and completely scaled-
Response - LFC agrees. The sealant will consist of cement grout mixed with five percent
bentonite powder at a rate of ten gallons of water per one 94 lb. sack of cement.
This mixture design should be of adequately low viscosity to permeate the filter
pack.
Comment S - Well abandonment shall also be in accordance with San Joaquin County Environmental Health
regulations.
Response - All well abandonment procedures will be performed in accordance with the San
Joaquin County Environmental Health Well Standards(undated), Section 6,
Destruction of Wells. A permit for well destruction will be obtained prior to
initiating any abandonment work.
LPC appreciates the importance of site remediation and will schedule abandonment as soon as
possible. We will keep you appraised of scheduling, should you wish to observe the
abandonments. If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact me at
(303) 426-7501.
Sincerely
H§1GE9T,RANS
Brendan Shine, P.E.
Senior Engineer
cc: Mr. Robert Garcia, Leprino Foods Company, Denver,CO
Mr. Kelly Stock, Leprino Foods Company, Tracy, CA
Q\PROJECTS\S.EI'RINO\MW Apmdnnmangrn .e w o,wumas.wpd
HSI GEOTRANS
