Ms. Diane Frantzich
Bureau of Fire Prevention
19 October 1990
Page 2
F SOIL/WATER SAMPLING AND DECONTAMINATION PROCEDURES
The type and number of samples to be collected will depend on whether or not water is
1
present in the excavation and whether contamination is discovered.
If water is not present in the tank excavation, soil samples will be collected from native soil
3 at each end of the UST at a depth of 2 to 4 feet. Soil samples will be taken from the bucket
r . of the backhoe, representing the native soil under the tank.
If water is present in the tank excavations, the water will be analyzed in accordance with
the proposed analytical protocol listed below, according to current Regional Water Quality .
Control Board recommendations.
E Decontamination procedures for sampling equipment will involve washing the
2-inch x 6-inch brass tubes in Liqui-Nox before driving the tubes into the soil. The soil
samples will be capped with Teflon, plastic end caps, and logged on a chain-of-custody
r, form. The samples will be stored on Blue Ice and taken to American Environmental
Laboratories Corporation (State Certification No. 210) for analyses.
The samples collected from the gasoline tank excavation will be analyzed for Total
;k F Petroleum Hydrocarbon—Gasoline or Diesel fraction (TPH-G or TPH-D), Benzene,
Toluene, Xylenes, and Ethylbenzene (BTXE), Tetraethyl/Tetramethyl Lead (TEL), and
Total Extractable Petroleum Hydrocarbon (TEPH). The samples collected from the diesel
tank extraction will be analyzed for TPH-D and BTXE.
s
PROPOSED ANALYTICAL PROTOCOL PROPOSED ANALYPICAL PROTOCOL
_
{ SOIL WATER
GLEN BRIAR ESTATE GLENBRIAR ESTATE
-^ Tracy,California Tracy,California
Analytical Analytical
Analvsis Container Preservation Method Analvsis Container Preservation Method
r TPH-Ga Brass Tube 4°C EPA.m-8015 TPH-Ga 1 liter°lass 4°C EPA m 8015
gT7zEb Brass 1-u0c 4°C EPA 8020 BTXEb 40 ml glass 4*C EPA 6M
TELA Brass Tube 4°C EPA AA TELA Miter
amberalass 4°C EPAAA
l 'Dad Miter
amber lass 4"C EPA m-8010
a Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons—Diesel and Gasoline Fractions
b Benzene;Toluene,Xylene and Ethylbenzene
C Tetraethyl/Tetramethyl Lead(Organic Lead)
j d Ethylene Dibromide
a
4
F
i .
