2-2
The field team and subcontracted drilling firm will demobilize from the site at the completion
of all field activities. All tools and materials used in the investigation will be removed and
the site e
h i left in a clean condition.
+ 2.3 TASK 3 - ADVANCEMENT OF SOIL BORINGS AND SOIL SAMPLING
Remcor will confine all drilling activities to areas that are currently owned by Southeastern.
All drilling will be completed using a truck-mounted drill rig capable of drilling with hollow-
stem augers. Remcor anticipates using 4-1/4-inch inside diameter hollow-stem augers when
completing the soil borings. Soil sampling will be completed concurrently with the advance-
ment of each borehole.
Soil samples will be collected continuously via 2-inch outside diameter split-barrel samplers
in advance of the lead auger until the terminal depth is achieved, as determined by the area
being investigated. The sampler will be driven with a free-falling hammer in accordance
with the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Method D 1586-74 (Standard
Method for Penetration Test and Split-Barrel Sampling of Soils). Standard penetration resis-
tance and soil classification (in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System) will
be recorded by the on-site geologist in a dedicated field logbook and later transferred to
boring logs.
. , Each sample submitted for laboratory analysis will be collected in a uniquely labeled,
laboratory-prepared glass sample container. Each sample container will be labeled so that
the following information is provided:
Sample identification number
• Sampler's initials
• Date and time of sample collection
• Preservative and analysis to be performed
• Project number.
The sample identification scheme will consist of the site designation, boring number, and
sample depth. An example of the system is as follows:
:24447
F
