I
24 April 2007
AGE-NC Project No. 04-1207
certified analytical laboratory in Paramount, California, and analyzed for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
Method 8015M; and
• Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total xylenes(BTEX)and fuel additives methyl tertiary-
butyl ether(MTBE),tertiary-butyl alcohol(TBA),di-isopropyl ether(RIPE),ethyl tertiary-
butyl ether(ETBE),tertiary-amyl methyl ether(TAME),1,2-dibromoethane(EDB),and 1,2-
dichloroethane (1,2-DCA)in accordance with EPA Method 8260B.
2.3. GROUND WATER EXTRACTION
Ground water extraction activities were initiated on 26 January 2007 utilizing well MW-1 as the
extraction well. A 1.5-inch submersible pneumatic pump powered by a small air compressor was
installed inside the 2-inch diameter well casing, which operates at a low flow rate of approximately
0.5 gallons per minute (GPM). Ground water is extracted from well MW-1 and routed through
plastic tubing to an on-site 21,000-gallon, closed-top, steel Baker Tank. Electricity is provided for
the compressor through a temporary power pole installed at the site; power to the system is
controlled by a timer, currently allowing the compressor to operate between 0615-hr and 2000-hr to
minimize noise disturbance to nearby residences.
On 05 February 2007, one ground water sample from the effluent line was collected into three
laboratory-supplied,40-m1 VOA vials without a sample preservative. After collection, the samples
were properly labeled, placed in a chilled container, and transported under chain of custody to CTEL
for analysis for:
• TPH-g in accordance with EPA Method 8015M; and
• BTEX and fuel additives MTBE, TBA, DIPE, ETBE, TAME, EDB, and 1,2-DCA in
accordance with EPA Method 8260B.
No petroleum hydrocarbon constituents were detected in the sample analyzed. The laboratory report
(CTEL Project No.CT214-0702041),quality assurance/quality control(QA/QC)reports,and chain
of custody form are included in Appendix C.
Between 26 January and 28 March 2007, a total of approximately 19,000 gallons of ground water
were extracted from well MW-1. Once the tank is full, disposal alternatives for the extracted water
will be evaluated based upon laboratory analysis of ground water samples collected from the tank.
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
