L & M OPERABLE UNIT-THIRD QUARTER 2013 SITE STATUS, REMEDIAL SUMMARY,
AND GROUNDWATER MONITORING REPORT
Status of Remediation Activities
November 1, 2013
Historical DPE system operations and analytical data are presented in Table 8 through Table
13. Chemical concentrations and mass removal graphs are presented on Figure 31 through
Figure 34. Analytical lab reports and field data sheets for all O&M activities are presented in
Appendix 1.
3.2 L&M OU AND APARTMENT SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION SYSTEMS
3.2.1 L&M OU and Apartment Soil Vapor Extraction Systems Summary
The L&M OU SVE (SVE) and Apartment SVE (ASVE) systems have been operational since
May 31, 2007. The SVE system is comprised of horizontal vapor wells: SVE-1 through SVE-11,
a 100-gallon liquid/vapor separator, and a Solleco 500 cfm vapor extraction system with a Roots
URAI 59 20-hp positive displacement blower. The ASVE system is comprised of horizontal wells
(ASVE-1 through ASVE-6), a 100-gallon liquid/vapor separator, and a Solleco 250 cubic feet per
minute (cfm) vapor extraction system with a Roots URAI 56 10-hp positive displacement blower.
Vapor from both the SVE and the ASVE systems is abated with a 750 scfm thermal oxidizer.
Since May 31, 2007 the 750 scfm SVE and ASVE vapor abatement system has been operated
under SJVAPCD permit number N-4878-2-0.
3.2.2 L&M OU and Apartment Soil Vapor Extraction Systems Operational Data — 3Q13
During 3Q13 (June 25, 2013 to September 26, 2013) the SVE and the ASVE systems were
approximately 92% operational (85 out of 93 days). The systems were found down on arrival on
September 26, 2013 due to an air pressure alarm. The alarm was cleared and the systems
were inspected for issues prior to being restarted. The systems operated without incident for
the remainder of the quarter.
3.2.3 Apartment Soil Vapor Extraction System Analytical Data — 3Q13
During 3Q13 (June 25, 2013 to September 26, 2013) the ASVE system removed approximately
9.4 lbs. (1.5 gallons) of TPHg, 0.08 lbs. (0.01 gallons) of benzene, and 0.17 lbs. (0.03 gallons)
of MTBE from the subsurface. To date the ASVE system has removed approximately 2,787.6
lbs. (457.0 gallons) of TPHg, 10.19 lbs. (1.42 gallons) of TPHd, 3.15 lbs. (0.43 gallons) of
benzene, and 6.69 lbs. (1.08 gallons) of MTBE from soil vapor beneath the Delta View
Apartments. Historical ASVE system operations and analytical data are presented in Table 16
through Table 18.
3.2.4 L&M OU Soil Vapor Extraction System Analytical Data — 3Q13
During 3Q13 (June 25, 2013 to September 26, 2013) the SVE system removed approximately
151 lbs. (24.7 gallons) of TPHg, 0.14 lbs. (0.02 gallons) of benzene, and 0.31 lbs. (0.05 gallons)
of MTBE from the subsurface. To date the SVE system has removed approximately 4,884 lbs.
(801 gallons) of TPHg, 5.17 lbs. (0.72 gallons) of TPHd, 3.86 lbs. (0.53 gallons) of benzene, and
5tantec 3.2
